Title:

"Standing on a loose panel that dangled from the tailgate were three white cattle egrets."

Subtitle

"They ocassionally flapped their wings to regain their balance whenever the panel swayed in the hot parking lot wind. Sitting atop the sides of the pickup's bed, and on the cab roof, and on the hood, and on both bumpers were scores of other egrets, maybe 40 or 50 in all. None were frightened away when the man in the tuxedo opened the driver side door and started the truck. A light gray smoke coughed out from the sputtering tailpipe."
